Mornig Horsetail
We can see horestail falls running when we arrived at 11:45am. It's hard to see it here, but you can make out the top of it. As the sun sets and moves to the side, the spray of the falls will become more apparent. Horsetail Falls Sunset Feb 21, 2016 Clouds rolled in at the last minute to destroy the fire-falls. Still got some nice glow
Afternoon Horsetail
Now that it's afternoon, Horsetail Falls is starting to become more visible as the light moves to the side. Parts of the middle of the falls are now visible. Horsetail Falls Sunset Feb 21, 2016 Clouds rolled in at the last minute to destroy the fire-falls. Still got some nice glow
Almost time!
We're still about an hour and a half away from the Fire Falls, the skies are cloudless (that will soon change), and the light is starting to creep along the rockface. Horsetail Falls Sunset Feb 21, 2016 Clouds rolled in at the last minute to destroy the fire-falls. Still got some nice glow
One Hour to Go
Clouds are starting to move in (nooooo) and the light is creeping along the rockface of El Capitan. The light will move from left to right, slowly making its way towards horsetail. Horsetail is now totally visible thanks to the side light. Now we just need it to turn orange and red. 40 Minutes Away!
You can see the clouds are rolling in a bit more now (again, nooooo), but the light is starting to turn orange as the sun gets low enough on the horizon. It's still creeping to the right. The falls are totally visible and have nice glow on them. Horsetail Falls Sunset Feb 21, 2016 Clouds rolled in at the last minute to destroy the fire-falls. Still got some nice glow

25 Minutes Away
You can still see the clouds that will eventually ruin the show, but the sun is in a good position. There's great water flow coming off of Horsetail and the light has made its way along the rock face and is mostly hidden now. We've got great light on Horsetail - now it just needs to glow red. Lets hope the clouds don't block it! Horsetail Falls Sunset Feb 21, 2016 Clouds rolled in at the last minute to destroy the fire-falls. Still got some nice glow

Lets hope the clouds don't block it! In a few more minutes the light will move even further to the right and only Horsetail will be lit up (there's still a little too much light on the rock face). 15 Minutes To Go!
Most of the light has moved towards Horsetail and the rock face isn't lit up very much anymore (what we want!). Keeping our fingers crossed! 10 Minutes to Go
You can't see it here, but clouds along the western horizon have started to block the light. The sun is in the right spot and it's mostly lighting up the falls, but without direct sunlight, the falls have started to fade :( Horsetail Falls Sunset Feb 21, 2016 Clouds rolled in at the last minute to destroy the fire-falls. It's About Time!
The sun is exactly where we want it but the clouds have moved in and blocked direct light from hitting the falls. They've got some color on them, but they're not glowing :( Horsetail Falls Sunset Feb 21, 2016 Clouds rolled in at the last minute to destroy the fire-falls. Still got some nice glow
It's Time ... but fail
The sun is exactly where we want it but the clouds have moved in and blocked direct light from hitting the falls. They've got some color on them, but they're not glowing . You can see a bit less glow than the previous photo :( Horsetail Falls Sunset Feb 21, 2016 Clouds rolled in at the last minute to destroy the fire-falls. Still got some nice glow
Horsetail!
This is it! The falls should be glowing like lava, as if they're on fire. Sadly, there's some clouds blocking the falls from *really* glowing brightly, but there's some nice color on the falls! Horse Glow Fades
As the sun sets, the light starts to die off. Horsetail Falls Sunset Feb 21, 2016 Clouds rolled in at the last minute to destroy the fire-falls. Still got some nice glow
